Skydive Kansas City’s Advanced Freefall Program (AFP) blends the low pressure tandem skydive with USPA’s Accelerated Free Fall training technique. We ask you to make two working tandems –deploying the parachute and assisting in canopy controls before jumping under your own parachute. Ready to take this seriously?
Part 1- TANDEM PROGRESSION JUMPS - CAT A
The first section begins with at least two tandem skydives. During your first working tandem skydive –also known as the ‘immersion jump’ you will get a sense of what free fall and canopy flight feels like. On your next tandem(s) you will improve your altitude awareness, body position, practice touches, deploy parachute and perform basic canopy controls while closely observing the landing pattern.
Part 2 - TRANSITION TRAINING - GROUND SCHOOL
The First Jump Course (“FJC”) is a six-hour ground school which covers gear knowledge, emergency procedures, body position, flight patterns, and safe landing procedures. After passing this course you are able to wear one of our student rigs –and take flight! You will have an instructor flying alongside you and radio support for landing –but the days of tandem skydiving are over!
Part 3 - FREEFALL PROGRESSION SOLO - CAT B-2 and beyond
Free Fall Progression involves nine skydives with our licensed AFF Instructors. Each jump builds upon the previous jumps. It’s imperative that you stay current by making at least one skydive every 30 days. If you don’t stay current you will have to repeat the previous jump. Staying current keeps your training fresh. The more often you skydive the better!
CONTINUED PROGRESSION
Ongoing progression involves jumping solo and with skydiving coaches. You refine and demonstrate skills as you move toward the 25-jump minimum required for your A-license. You must pass all of the skill requirements… including learning how to pack (and jump) your own parachute! Once licensed, you are able to jump with other skydivers and visit other skydiving centers!
